New Nüvifone M20 and G60 soon available… in Asia

July 30th, 2009 admin No comments

After one year of speculations, delays and rumors, the new Nüvifone will soon be available. Not only one model, but two, the G60 and the compact size M20!! The only “but” is that you will have to pay a trip to Asia to get one of these…

Garmin Nuvifone G60

Garmin Nuvifone M20

If you are rich enough to pay a trip to Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong or Singapore , you will be for sure the only one in your office who can show off with your new gadget, when you come back from holidays.

As a result of a collaboration between Garmin and Asus, these new models will soon become a “must have” gadget. Why buying a car Navigation device when you can have one of the best navigation systems integrated in your mobile phone? Or is it vice versa?

The new M20 is a compact “navigation-phone” operating under Windows Mobile 6.1, which can switch easily to  navigation mode with the award-wining turn-by-turn Garmin software. With a 640×480 touch screen display , 3 megapixels camera, 3G with HSDPA, WI-FI connection and 4 to 8 Gb memory, what else can you ask for? Well, an interesting feature of this new phone is Ciao! an application very similar to Google Latitude that will allow you to locate your friends easily.

If you are one of those who prefer to use alternative OS, you may want to buy the new G60. With similar features to the new M20 (although bigger in size), the G60 runs under Linux software.

Maybe you would like to check the full specifications before buying your ticket to Taiwan…

And if you are not ready to spend hours flying to Asia, then wait till the end of the year.  Both phones will be available throughout Europea and North America in the second half of 2009…

It’s official: new LG BL40 with 21:9 ratio touchscreen

July 30th, 2009 admin No comments

LG BL40

LG has made it official: their new Chocolate phone will be available early Q3 in 54 countries, and is expected to set a new path for future entertainment and mobile devices.

The new BL40 features a 4-inch Real VGA touchscreen with a 21:9 ratio and 800 x 345 pixel resolution for a panoramic, cinema-like viewing experience. With this enlarged screen, browsing the internet will also be much more comfortable: no need to scroll horizontally, and it can also be split in two (Dual Screen UI) and display two different contents simultaneously.

Top quality materials have been used for the screen, overlaid with curved tempered glass and encased in a glossy black finish.

LG BL40

And let’s not forget other relevant specs: 5 megapixels camera, 7.2 Mbps HSPA, WiFi, A-GPS…

Our main concern, though, is related to size: despite being quite slim, the candybar-type phone is too long and not really pocket-friendly. Same happened with some Nokia devices in the past: great specs on paper, but unfortunately not very convenient as real mobile phones. Therefore we will have to wait and see how consumers react once the BL40 hits the streets before the end of the Summer.

New Apple tablet for XMas, according to Financial Times

July 27th, 2009 admin No comments

New Apple Tablet Cocktail

It has been over two years of rumours about a tablet-type device from Apple, and it never came true. But according to Financial Times, Steve Jobs will have a tablet ready for an early launch in September.

This will be a 10-inch touch sensitive screen device (perfect for watching movies) and fully media focused: Apple might be working with EMI, SonyMusic, Warner Music and Universal Music on a project called “Cocktail”. The objective? stimulate sales of full-length albums bundled with interactive contents, and change the actual trend on its iTunes store based on cherry-picking songs.

So let’s wait just a few weeks and just hope this time is not a rumour…

New smartphone with OLED screen from HP

July 26th, 2009 admin No comments

New HP Ipaq K3 Obsidian

Hey, business guys, do you love Blackberry devices? Then close your eyes and try to imagine a classic Blackberry with full QWERTY, Windows 6.5 software, 3.2 megapixels camera and a 2,46″ AMOLED touchscreen (not so common in this type of smartphones).

Ok, then open your eyes… and the new HP Ipaq K3 Obsidian is right there, in front of you; boring design, we admit it, but let’s not forget it also features Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, a 528 MHz CPU from Qualcomm, 3,5 mm headphone connector, triband UMTS/HSDPA 3.6Mbps connectivity and (yes!) built-in GPS. Memory can be expanded through a microSD card slot.

HP Ipaq K3 Obsidian

You can expect to find it in AT&T stores next November, with a price tag of around $199.

HD video with Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II. Enjoy and relax…

July 23rd, 2009 admin 1 comment

Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-II

I own a Canon EOS 40D, quite a nice semi-pro reflex digital camera. I have been very proud of it for over a year… but not anymore after watching this video.

It has been recorded by Jon Rawlison’s production company, and surprisingly not with a standard videocamera. In fact you don’t need one  if you are lucky enough to own a DSLR with integrated Full HD video capabilities, such as this 21-megapixels marvel with full frame CMOS sensor.

The 4 1/2 minutes video is not outstanding in terms of creativity but it’s relaxing and a pleasure for the senses. It was recorded at the Okinawa Churami Aquarium, second largest aquarium tank in the world, and we strongly recommend to watch it full-screen and HQ quality.

Before you ask about the song: it’s Please don’t Go by Barcelona. Relax…

Kingston DataTraveler 300: world’s first 256 Gb USB Flash drive

July 21st, 2009 admin No comments

Kingston-Data-Traveler-300

Just a few days after announcing their first 128 Gb pen drive, Kingston has surprised everybody with this new little big monster: 256 Gb is the new challenge for Sandisk and other competitors.

The flash drive can protect up to 90% of contents with the new Password Traveler software (does not work for Mac OS or Linux, though), USB connector is retractable for higher protection and the device is backed with a 5 year guarantee plus 24/7 tech support.

Kingston-DataTraveler-300-21

But the real question is: do we really need a 256 Gb USB flash drive? Well, just some samples of capacity to give you ideas:

  • 10 Blu-Ray discs
  • 54 DVD’s
  • 365 CD’s
  • 49,000 mp3 songs
  • 152,000 5 mega photos

Not bad, isn’t it? But first you will have to pay almost US$ 900 (652 euros, approx.). Our suggestion? Be cool, wait a few months, and surely price will drop at least 50%. So be patient, my friend…

PSP Go! will bring graphics to the next level

July 19th, 2009 admin No comments

PSP-Go

PSP Go! was officially presented some weeks ago during the last edition of E3. Despite being 40% lighter and 50% smaller than the original PSP, we did not think it was a huge leap forward… but perhaps we were wrong.

At least after taking a look to these two videos of Little Big Planet and Gran Turismo. Graphics are amazing, much better than those on the other PSP’s. In any case, US Sony fans will be able to judge by themselves next OCtober 1st after paying around $249. Enjoy!

Welcome to a new dimension

Fuji-3D-Camera

Seems that digital cameras are reaching their limit in terms of megapixels, HD video features, compact size, ultra-zooms… while mobile phones are becoming a real threat with sophisticated devices that can replace, in some cases, a compact digicam.

Fortunately Fuji is here with some fresh air that will surely open new opportunities for the brand and the whole market. Time magazine have already tested the prototype of the FinePix Real 3D System, and the results are quite promising: the 10 megapixels camera employs two twin lenses set 6 cms. apart from each other (roughly like the human eyes), so the pictures are taken simultaneously from two different angles, then combined taking into account focus, zoom and exposure and… voila! a stereoscopic 3D image is right there, in front of our eyes.

What about the LCD screen? Fuji has developed a 2.8-inch 230,000 pixels QVGA that can display 2D and 3D images, plus 3D menus.

The final pictures can be printed on a special clear plastic overlay that, most surely, will be available through an online service. Another option is an 8-inch digital picture frame that creates the 3D effect.

The new Fuji gadget will be launched this Summer in japan and in the US, Europe in September. Price? Around $600. Perhaps it’s expensive, but surely prices will drop once the technology [hopefully] becomes popular. In any case, Fuji, we would love to test one ourselves!
